DIY Photo Light Box

Having trouble taking aesthetic photos because of light issues? Fret not! I am here to save the day with this new DIY tutorial- Photo Light Box. Recently, I have been seeing this amazing Foldable Photo Studio Box that many shops online have been selling and I’ve always wanted to get my hands on one. Here’s an example of how it looks like:

But…. Having a tight budget means it’s a big no no from Simon so I’ve decided to try to do one on my own at 1/8 of the price.

All you need for this project is:

  1. Cardboard box
  2. Craft Tissue paper
  3. Pen Knife
  4. Tape
  5. White Construction / Mahjong Paper (at least 30% longer than the box length)

I got my supplies from Art Friend. You can also find them in any other craft/book stores such as Popular.

Okay leggo.

First, mark out 1 inch (2.54cm) from the sides on 3 sides of the box. (Cut out the black area)

Box should look like this after the sides are cut out.

Next, cover the 3 openings with tissue paper. The tissue paper helps to soften the light that comes into the box, giving it a smoother finish to the photos.

Cut white paper into the same measurements as the width of the box. Place paper in the box such that it curves.

Now it’s ready! Simple as that! Place box near light source for studio-like pictures.
Alternatively, you can get artificial light source such as LED light strips to brighten up the box when needed like what I did here.

You can also switch between different background colors whenever you want, you don’t have to stick to white!
