I mean, is there anyone who doesn&#8217;t?<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re so versatile and multi-purpose, we are&nbsp;really only limited by our imagination. People use them for ideas, sketches, to-do lists, notes, diary entries&#8230;&nbsp;It is basically an <strong>essential<\/strong> in life &#8211; for me at least.<\/p>\n<p>As we speak, I have brand-new still-in-packaging notebooks waiting for their turn to shine, because I can never resist getting them!!! Even if I don&#8217;t immediately see a need for them!! (need to #stahp)<\/p>\n<p>Hence, it really boggles me to have never thought of&#8230;<br \/>\n<em><strong>making my own.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>After seeing a couple of tutorials and trying out for myself, here&#8217;s presenting to you&#8230; 5&nbsp;steps to your very own handmade notebooks!<\/p>\n<p>p.s. these guys would make wonderful gifts for friends and loved ones &lt;3<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><span class=\"alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1836\" src=\"https:\/\/printforfunsg.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/05\/things-you-need-blog1.jpg?resize=980%2C878\" alt=\"things you need blog.jpg\" width=\"980\" height=\"878\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Things you need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>blank paper (we used 80gsm printer paper) &#8211; 7-10 sheets, depending on how many pages you want to have<\/li>\n<li>coloured\/ patterned card stock or thicker paper for cover material<\/li>\n<li>string<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Equipment:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>paper cutter\/trimmer<\/li>\n<li>needle, thread and thimble\/ anything that lets you push down the needle<\/li>\n<li>hole punch<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr>\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong>&nbsp;For A6 sized notebooks, cut the A4 sized papers into two. The paper cutter makes it much easier, but you can easily do it with scissors or pen knife too.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1921 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/printforfunsg.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/05\/giphy.gif?resize=480%2C270\" alt=\"giphy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1838\" src=\"https:\/\/printforfunsg.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/05\/step11.jpg?resize=980%2C735\" alt=\"step1.JPG\" width=\"980\" height=\"735\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong>&nbsp;Next, we fold the paper in half. Use something to go over the fold to make it crisp.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1924 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/printforfunsg.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/05\/giphy2.gif?resize=480%2C270\" alt=\"giphy2\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Then, put the pages together.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1922 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/printforfunsg.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/05\/giphy1.gif?resize=480%2C270\" alt=\"giphy1\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong> Use the pages to measure and see how big you want the cover to be, giving around a cm allowance. Then, cut and fold according to the same instructions in steps 1 and 2.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Step 4:<\/strong>&nbsp;For binding your notebooks together, there are two methods &#8211; choose the one that suits you best!<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1848\" src=\"https:\/\/printforfunsg.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/05\/step4-mtd1.jpg?resize=980%2C735\" alt=\"step4 mtd1\" width=\"980\" height=\"735\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Method one:<\/span> hole + string<\/p>\n<p>This method is super easy, and can be done in a jiffy! Simply punch holes and tie the string &#8211; just make sure you tie the knot inside, unless you prefer to see the knot outside \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1852\" src=\"https:\/\/printforfunsg.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/05\/step4-mtd2.jpg?resize=980%2C735\" alt=\"step4 mtd2\" width=\"980\" height=\"735\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Method two:<\/span> sewing (oh you&#8217;ll need a ruler too)<\/p>\n<p>This method requires more steps and effort, but the end result is much better too! It actually reminds me of those store-bought kind &#8211; except my skills not there yet&#8230; haha<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1853\" src=\"https:\/\/printforfunsg.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/05\/step4-mtd2-1.jpg?resize=980%2C653\" alt=\"step4 mtd2-1\" width=\"980\" height=\"653\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Measure and dot along the inner bone (I do around 1\/4 inch from the edge and an inch space between each dot) as a guide for when you start sewing.<\/p>\n<p>Note: Remember to tie at least 2\/3 knots at the end of the string so it wouldn&#8217;t go all the way through.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1884\" src=\"https:\/\/printforfunsg.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/05\/step-4-mtd-2-11.jpg?resize=980%2C735\" alt=\"step 4 mtd 2-1\" width=\"980\" height=\"735\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Start sewing from the inside, where you have the dots. You&#8217;ll need the thimble or something hard and sturdy to help push the needle through, while supporting the book on a flat surface. You can put cork board or a sponge below to catch the needle, but I just did it off the edge of the table.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1854\" src=\"https:\/\/printforfunsg.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/05\/step4-mtd2-2.jpg?resize=980%2C735\" alt=\"step4 mtd2-2\" width=\"980\" height=\"735\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Once you get the needle and thread through the first hole, measure and draw the dot guides on this side as well.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-1896 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/printforfunsg.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/05\/1944-basting-stitch_0.png?w=300&#038;resize=300%2C169\" alt=\"1944-basting-stitch_0\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Sew as in the diagram above &#8211; called a basting stitch &#8211; to end up with a dashed line look like&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1856\" src=\"https:\/\/printforfunsg.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/05\/step4-mtd2-4.jpg?resize=980%2C735\" alt=\"step4 mtd2-4\" width=\"980\" height=\"735\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>this! When you reach the bottom, sew upwards in the same fashion, and you&#8217;ll end up with something&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1855\" src=\"https:\/\/printforfunsg.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/05\/step4-mtd2-3.jpg?resize=980%2C735\" alt=\"step4 mtd2-3\" width=\"980\" height=\"735\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; like this!<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1857\" src=\"https:\/\/printforfunsg.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/05\/step4-mtd2-5.jpg?resize=980%2C735\" alt=\"step4 mtd2-5\" width=\"980\" height=\"735\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>To end off, tie&nbsp;three knots and trim off the excess thread.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 5:<\/strong>&nbsp;Decorate (optional; an idea as in picture below) and <strong>celebrate<\/strong> your new notebooks!!!<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1929\" src=\"https:\/\/printforfunsg.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/05\/img_9776.jpg?resize=980%2C735\" alt=\"IMG_9776.JPG\" width=\"980\" height=\"735\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The completed notebooks should look like this!
