Have you ever browsed through your explore page and wonder how some people’s Instagram feed are just so god damn pretty and just how they edit them? Well, I have. So I did a lil’ research on some of the best apps on the market to edit your photos and here are my top 5 favorites!
1. Snapseed (Free on IOS and Android)
If you search ‘Top Photo Editing App’ on Google, about 99.99% of the articles posted there have Snapseed on their ‘Must Have’ list. And I can see why. It’s incredibly easy to use, but at the same time it offers a powerful collection of tools. I love the layout of their app and how it differs from the other apps in the market.
This app excels in all basic photo processing techniques, including exposure, color, sharpening, cropping and straightening. It also offers advanced editing features such as selective adjustments which is my favorite feature in Snapseed. Here is an example of a photo I edited:
As you can see, it’s A LOT of difference. All I used was the Selective tool to adjust the brightness of some parts of the photo instead of the whole. This is good because it’s flexible and it allows me to adjust wherever I want to without having any constraints.
Besides that, there’s a great selection of filters that you can use to convert your photos to vintage/ black & white, add blur effect or enhance the mood of your images. My favorite filter is Lens Blur. It focuses on an object, giving the rest of the picture a blurry-dreamy effect without having to use a DSLR. If you are looking for inspirations, click on Insights on the main page and they have guides to show you how to achieve the perfect shot.
If you’re new to iPhone photography, this is the photo editor app you should download and try out.
2. Pixlr (Free on IOS and Android)
Pixlr has many combinations of effects, overlays and filters in their app. You can create photo collages with various layout, background and spacing options. There is an Auto Fix feature that balances out color and multiple photos can be layered and blended together as well. My favorite feature in this app is the Double Exposure tool as it allows me to overlay many photos together pretty flexibly!
Pixlr has many cool effects that you can play around with! The one I am using in the picture below is the Dapple effect under Stylize.
3. Afterlight (S$1.48 on IOS, S$1.24 on Android)
I have been using Afterlight for the longest time now to edit my pictures as it is extremely easy to navigate around! It features basic editing tools like brightness, saturation, temperature, sharpness and even graininess. What’s interesting about this app is that you can customize your own filters by combining different effects under the tab Fusion.
In addition to that, they provide really cool effects like dusty, light leak and instant film that can be added to create textures to your pictures. In the photo example below, I used their letter frames above my picture. You can easily print these out to use on wedding or birthday cards invitations!
4. Touch Retouch (S$2.98 on IOS and Android)
It may be pricey, but this app is amazing. Ever took a perfect picture but someone just had to be at the background?! I know that feeling gurl and this app is for you.
Here’s an example, I’m going to remove the man in the picture using the object removal tool.
TADAA. Problem solved.
They have other tools like Quick Repair, Line Removal and Clone Stamp that you can try it out as well!
5. 美人相机 (Mei Ren Xiang Ji) (Free on IOS)
Don’t be intimidated by this chinese app, because honestly, I do not understand a single word myself (‘: Once you get to the main page, just click on the mini semi-circle at the bottom which will lead you to your camera roll. The first tab you see is to resize your image, flip or rotate.
My favorite part of this app is the beautify feature, which is the middle tab. It enables you to enhance selfies, like remove blemishes, slimming, big eyes, smile, nose etc. You can even apply full on make up! They also have cute filters and stickers to pimp up your pictures.
Now that I have introduced these amazing apps to you, go try it out yourself! Let us know what you think about these apps in the comments and share your photos by printing them here!
Till next time!
